2018 STC Graduation Commencement Ceremony
May 15, 2018 – On May 8, Southeastern Technical College (STC) graduated its 2018 class of degree and diploma students from both the Vidalia and Swainsboro campuses.
As over 100 graduates waited in anticipation, La’Toya Jackson welcomed her graduating class with a heartwarming story about her experience as a deaf student. La’Toya encouraged her fellow graduates to continue their journey despite setbacks and to “dream big.”
“This is not the end of your story,” said La’Toya. “Southeastern Technical College has given us something that no one else can give: an education and a future.”
Guest speaker, Director of Nursing RN to BSN Bridge at East Georgia State College, Dr. Sylvia Rozier, described the importance of technical education and the demand for skilled students. She spoke of the undeniable change in the lives of each graduate and their future careers.
“We all must change,” said Dr. Rozier. “If you are going to be relevant today, you must be willing to change to make a difference in a society based solely on just that.”
Dr. Rozier concluded her presentation with strongly establishing the importance of change through language and comparison of educational growth across generations.
The presentation of the diplomas was carried out by President Larry Calhoun, assisted by Brian Toole, Chair of STC’s Board of Directors, Dr. Barry Dotson, Vice President of Student Affairs, and Karen Vereen, Registrar.
Other speakers included, Pastor Chester Proctor, Senior Pastor of Smith Street Baptist Church, Brian Toole, Chair of STC’s Board of Directors, and Michael Harden, President of the Student Government Association at Southeastern Technical College.
