Adding Up Success

January 22, 2018 – Accounting can be described as the process of organizing financial data relating to a business or corporation. Many people mistakenly limit this description to simple mathematical terms such as adding and subtracting. Shaquelle Jordan has made it his life passion to use accounting as a form of communication. Rather than simple mathematics, Shaquelle uses numeric quantities to define the economic position of businesses and financial institutions.

Shaquelle Jordan is a local student at Southeastern Technical College completing the Accounting Degree program.

STC’s Accounting program offers students the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about the application of financial statement analysis, job costing, budget analysis, and logarithmic computer systems. This program prepares students to enter the work force as accounting technicians with skills necessary to exercise many financial tasks needed in today’s business environment.

Along with the rigorous course load, the Accounting program has consisted of a predominantly female student body. This makes Shaquelle a non-traditional student. Despite this statistic, he continues to work hard to grow in this field and he has made a very successful journey at STC.

“I believe that as long as you are doing what you love, nothing should hold you back,” states Shaquelle. “At the end of the day, you have to do what makes you happy.”

Although he is graduating this summer, Shaquelle has already found a position at a local business, Handy Andy Warehouse. At Handy Andy, he works as an Accounting Clerk reviewing and organizing numeric data using computer technologies.

After graduation, he plans to continue his education in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He gives advice to those that are considering a nontraditional education pathway:

“If it makes you happy, then never stop pursuing your dreams because at the end of the journey you get to do what you love.”
