Building a Connection with the Community
July 10, 2017– As one of the many community outreach programs hosted by Southeastern Technical College (STC), STC has joined together with the Connection Church to provide “back to school backpacks” for the children of single parents that attend STC.
The Connection Church of Vidalia has helped STC round up materials and helping hands to gather school supplies for local families in need. Though they have only been present in the Vidalia community for two years, they have a strong need to help the surrounding community. Billy Shiver, Pastor of the Vidalia campus for the Connection Church, leads the way in many of their community outreach programs.
“Our goal, as a church, is to connect people to a growing relationship with Jesus Christ,” states Billy. “We want to make such a large difference that if we left, the community would miss us.”
For STC, this means that many single parent households will be able to send their children off to school with new notebooks, pencils and, of course, new backpacks. Not only does it benefit the children but, also the parents who attend STC.
A large number of students who attend STC are leading a household alone. With the rising cost of school supplies and tuition, this service by Connection Church for STC students will relieve some of that financial burden.
With the help of the Connection Church, STC was able to provide 88 children with school supplies for the upcoming year.
