Disability Employment Awareness Month Speaker
October 22, 2019 – In recognition of Disability Employment Awareness Month, Southeastern Technical College (STC) Special Needs/Special Populations Office sponsored an informational lunch session featuring Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA).
GVRA Counselor Assistant Sarah Conners presented an informational session to the Vidalia campus Tuesday, October 22.
Every county in Georgia is served by a vocational rehabilitation office and is designed to help individuals with disabilities meet their employment goals.
Many individuals with disabilities and their families have found that these agencies can provide flexible services to help prepare them for employment and/or regain employment.
“Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency has been very instrumental in helping Southeastern Tech’s students successfully complete their program of study and transition into a career field,” said Helen Thomas, STC Special Needs Specialist. “This is just one of the resources STC uses when providing accommodations for students. This agency helps evaluate each student’s circumstance and needed services. The type of services they provide include assistive devices and technology and educational supplies.”
A GVRA counselor from Emanuel County will present this information on the Swainsboro campus in November.STC students needing more information should contact Helen Thomas on the Vidalia campus at (912) 538-3126 or Macy Gay on the Swainsboro campus at (478) 289-2274.
