Employers Searching for New Talent at STC Career Fairs
March 27, 2013 - Job seekers will have a chance to meet with employers from across the state at career fairs on Southeastern Technical College’s Swainsboro and Vidalia campuses soon.
The 2013 STC Career Fairs—on April 9 and 10 in Swainsboro and Vidalia, respectively—will provide a direct path for potential employees to organizations in need of workers.
“The majority of these employers have positions that need to be filled, so they are looking to hire someone,” said STC Director of Career Services Lance Helms.
Medical institutions, correctional facilities, staffing agencies and more have sent representatives to Southeastern Tech’s career fairs over the years, and Helms can attest to the hiring of many fair attendees, crediting the level of access the fair grants job seekers.
“People get to talk with the person that would actually be selecting applicants to interview or hire,” said Helms. “It’s your opportunity to interview with a company in a way you might otherwise not get by traditionally completing an application at the place of business.”
Though the fairs offer a direct line to employers outside of the office, Helms says that students should still prepare ahead of time and approach the event as an interview opportunity.
“Employers are given access to rooms for on-the-spot interviews,” said Helms. “So, people should bring resumes and pens to complete applications and dress professionally.”
More career-minded events are planned for STC’s campuses, including Lunch and Learns where students will get more opportunities to speak with representatives of the region’s major employers.
