STC Student Announced as Grace E. Smith Scholarship Recipient
January 14, 2019 – On behalf of the STC Foundation and the family of Grace Smith, Southeastern Technical College announced the recipient of this year’s Grace E. Smith Memorial Scholarship. Congratulations to Amber Yawn, a student on our Vidalia Campus, who was recently accepted into the LPN program. Amber resides in Hazlehurst with her husband and two children.
This scholarship was established in 2014 by the friends and family of Grace Smith, the daughter of Eric and Laura Smith from McRae, Georgia and Community Hospice. Grace lost a 10-month battle with cancer on May 9, 2013, at twenty years of age. Grace’s choice to live in peace and hope for a future not only inspired her family and community but all who came in contact with her. Grace’s memory and her legacy of love and inspiration live on through the work and generous donations of those who support the Grace E. Smith Memorial Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded once per year; the first half in the Spring semester and the second upon that semester's completion and registration for the next semester, to a student in a health care program.
