Harmon Receives STC’S 2014 Rick Perkins Award
February 17, 2014 - Ashley Harmon, marketing management and entrepreneurship instructor at Southeastern Technical College, is this year’s recipient of the 2014 Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education.
Harmon shared, “I am thrilled to represent Southeastern Technical College and be given the opportunity to share the message of technical education and its impact and importance to our communities, our businesses, and to the great state of Georgia.
“As a technical college instructor, I recognize I not only have the capacity to impact the lives of my students, but I hold the potential to positively alter generations to come.”
The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction honors the Technical College System of Georgia’s most outstanding instructors. The award has been an ongoing statewide event since 1991 and is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields.
Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the award was renamed in honor and memory of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, an instructor at West Central Technical College, who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death. The Technical College System of Georgia provides oversight for the Rick Perkins Award program through the system’s office, the college presidents’ Academic Affairs Committee, and the state planning committee.
Harmon will now represent the college at the regional competition. All regional winners will compete for the title of TCSG Instructor of the Year and will be announced at the Rick Perkins Award Ceremony in Atlanta.
