On the Road to Success with STC
July 27, 2017 – As an effort to continue the growth and success of the students at Southeastern Technical College (STC), the school has enhanced its Commercial Truck Driving (CTD) program by adding new simulators and advanced training for their staff.
The Commercial Truck Driving program at STC provides basic training in the principles and skills of commercial truck operations. With more than 10.5 billion tons being transported across America every year, this industry has a high demand for graduates.
STC has one of the highest pass rates of students taking licensure exams in the state of Georgia and by adding these new simulators, the college is providing students with a greater competitive edge to enhance their driving education.
The goal of the new simulators is to teach students how to properly back maneuver and make turns before getting behind the wheel. For students who have never driven a manual automotive, it will also teach them about shifting and clutch control. STC is also using similar technology to train EMT students on safely operating an ambulance.
“These simulators are impressive,” states Jessie Garrett, Dean of Environmental and Industrial Technologies. “We even have other businesses wanting to rent simulator time through the Continuing Education program.”
STC has also recently purchased eight new 2018 Freightliner trucks and seven new trailers for the program so students can train on the newest trucks in the industry.
Although more than 70% of all freight in the US is moved by commercial trucking, the industry is in a deep driver shortage. As the amount of freight continues to rise, the demand for experienced drivers has never been higher.
