Professional Stylists Visit STC Campus
November 16, 2017 – The Cosmetology program at Southeastern Technical College (STC) recently hosted a stop on the Paul Mitchell Southeast Baliage/Hand-Painting Color Tour.
The professional teams from Paul Mitchell and CosmoProf, a distributor of professional salon products, held a workshop at STC's Swainsboro campus where they showed local cosmetologists and instructors at STC the latest trends in hair styling.
The event was organized by STC Cosmetology Instructors Peggy Braswell and Althea Telfair. Braswell said that CosmoProf reached out to her and wanted to hold a workshop at STC's newly remodeled and state-of-the-art salon.
"It helped the instructors with new techniques who then carried it back to the students. It also gave instructors the chance to meet with salon owners, who are potential employers for our students," Braswell said.
Jason Sapp, is a former graduate student of Braswell's, and is an alumni of STC. He currently works as a national educator for Paul Mitchell and led the workshop. Braswell said that she realized Sapp would have a successful career in styling after one semester of having him in class.
Sapp and Misty Arnold, another national color educator from Paul Mitchell and owner of 67 Styles in Statesboro, Ga., showed the attendees new ways to enhance hair color.
They walked the cosmetologists through many new techniques, including Baliage/hand paining, which is one of the latest trends in hair coloring. It involves applying color directly to the strands of hair that the stylists want it to go.
"It is very important for instructors to stay up to date on products and techniques so that it can be passed along to students," Braswell said.
