Southeastern Tech Unveils New Patriot Mascot
May 7, 2013 - Southeastern Technical College has been searching for a mascot for some time now, and after many meetings and discussions, the college is ready to unveil its new face to the public.
Southeastern Tech’s newest addition is the Patriot, and he’s the most visible part of STC’s move to become the “Patriots.”
“We thought it would be fun to have a mascot at special events to represent STC,” said Dr. Cathryn Mitchell, president of Southeastern Tech. “And with our students’ enterprising spirit and the pride they take in their community, what could better represent our college than the Patriot?”
The Patriot made his debut at the Pine Tree Festival Parade on May 4 in downtown Swainsboro. The school hopes that the new moniker will give children and adults alike a figure to attach to Southeastern Tech and create a rallying point for students.
A name has not yet been selected for the mascot, but the school plans to begin a contest soon that will allow students, faculty, staff, and community members to submit names, with a prize for the creator of the winning name.
There are no immediate plans to establish competitive athletic teams at the school, though college officials didn’t rule that out for the future. For now, the Patriot will only appear at promotional events for the college.
