Southeastern Tech Graduates Radiologic Technology Class

January 7, 2020 – Southeastern Technical College (STC) graduated six students from the Radiologic Technology degree program. To celebrate the graduating class, a pinning ceremony was held on the Vidalia campus December 5, 2019.

The graduates were Brooke Anderson from Jesup, Catherine Googe from Vidalia, Melissa Morales from Baxley, Hayden Sinquefield from Hazlehurst, Harley Stanfield from Cobbtown, and Brianna Young from Vidalia.

The STC Radiologic Technology program takes approximately 19 months to complete, with extensive real-life practical experience. These graduates completed 54 credit hours of academic instruction and over 900 hours of clinical education time. They also completed a minimum of 104 clinical competency exams and performed or participated in about ¼ of the total exams performed at our clinical education affiliates.

The ceremony began with a video explaining the history of Radiologic Technology and the evolution of education in Radiologic Technology.

STC Rad Tech Program Director Tara Powell thanked Accordia Urgent Care and Family Practice-Vidalia and Dublin, Appling Healthcare System, Jeff Davis Hospital, Meadows Health, Optim Healthcare-Tattnall, Optim Orthopedics-Vidalia, Spivey Orthopedic Clinic, Vidalia Orthopedic Center, and Washington County Regional Medical Center for being community partnership facilities and allowing our students to further their education.

Valedictorian Harley Stanfield said, “Each clinical site has provided an unwavering support to each of us, providing unconditional patience, incredible teaching opportunities, and truly some of the most memorable moments.”

Mr. Tim Jackson was the guest speaker. Mr. Jackson is a veteran of the US Army and also worked as an undercover narcotics officer with the Oakland California Police Department. After retirement, he worked as a private investigator until graduating in 2015 from Southeastern Tech’s Radiologic Technology Degree program.

Mr. Jackson described his observation of this class during clinicals. He said, “the class didn’t say much in the beginning, then though they may have been nervous, they were eager to learn, and with practice and guidance they became confident and could apply what they learned and continued to get better at their craft. It’s great to see their growth. What impressed me the most was the care they gave to their patients. For that time in the room, the patient was the most important thing to them.”

To the graduates, he said, “You knew what you could have been doing, but you knew what you should have been doing and you stayed the course. I’m proud to see the future of x-ray is bright.”
