STC Accepting Grace E. Smith Memorial Scholarship Applications

August 27, 2019 – The Southeastern Technical College (STC) Foundation would like to announce that we are accepting applications for the Grace E. Smith Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship has been established by Community Hospice and the friends and family of Grace Smith, the daughter of Eric and Laura Smith from McRae, Georgia. Grace lost a 10-month battle with cancer on May 9, 2013, at twenty years of age.

During her illness, Grace and her family received compassionate care through the hospice staff; therefore, they would like to invest in the future of an STC student who has the desire to work in the hospice field. Students enrolled in STC’s Nurse Aide, Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing, or Associate Degree of Nursing or ASN Bridge programs are eligible to apply. Students who are enrolled in the core classes for these programs, with intent to pursue a diploma or degree in a nursing-related field, may also be considered. Scholarship recipient must agree to put in at least 10 hours of volunteer service at a local hospice, outside of clinical hours, during each semester they receive the scholarship - Spring and Summer 2020.

Students must submit a complete scholarship packet by September 26th, 2019, to be considered for this scholarship. The application packet and more details about the scholarship are located at www.southeasterntech.edu/about-stc/FoundationScholarships.php. The scholarship recipient will be announced on October 6th, 2019, in celebration of A Day of Grace.

Grace’s choice to live in peace and hope for a future not only inspired her family and community, but all who came in contact with her. Grace’s memory and her legacy of love and inspiration lives on through the work and generous donations of those who support the Grace E. Smith Memorial Scholarship. You may learn more about Grace and her journey at www.dayofgrace.org/.

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded once per year; the first half in the Spring semester and the second upon that semester's completion and registration for the next semester.
