STC Cosmetology Holds Annual Fantasy Competition
October 7, 2013 - Cosmetology students on Southeastern Technical College’s Vidalia campus contributed to a number of natural disasters on Sept. 30, with three teams taking home prizes for their work.
STC-Vidalia’s annual cosmetology fantasy contest allowed teams of students the chance to flex their creative muscle.
“The contest helps the students take the skills they have learned and apply them in a totally new and different way,” said Linda Hairr, a cosmetology instructor. “It helps them to think outside the box.”
The theme for each competition changes from year to year, and the students chose “Forces of Nature” for this year’s theme. As a result, the models evoked wildfires, earthquakes and ice storms.
“The contest helps the students to bring out their creative side,” said Althea Telfair, another STC Cosmetology instructor. “It also helps them to come together and work as a team.”
The groups were composed of three students. The model in each group was a first semester student, while the two stylists were third and fourth semester students.
“By doing this, it gave the freshman class a glimpse into their future,” said Hairr.
A number of Southeastern Tech faculty and staff served as judges for the competition and awarded third place to Carla Foy, Rhonda Johnson and Zelina Rodriguez, second place to Chelsea Holloway, Ashley Partin and Whittnei Williams and first place to Patricia Gibson, Angel Jordan and Hali LaFavor.
