STC Instructor Named Finalist for Georgia Technical Education Award
May 14, 2013 - Jennifer Corner, Southeastern Technical College’s Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction winner, was named a finalist for the state Rick Perkins Award in Atlanta on April 24.
“It was an extreme honor to be nominated by one of my peers to be a candidate for instructor of the year,” said Corner, STC’s practical nursing director and an instructor.
After being named the college’s award winner in January, Corner met the Rick Perkins winners from Georgia’s 25 other technical colleges at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel on April 24. That night, three finalists from each of Georgia’s three technical college regions were chosen to compete for the state award the next day.
“There are so many wonderful, dedicated instructors that I never in a million years thought that I would be selected as the winner on either the local or regional level,” said Corner.
Though Corner ultimately did not receive the state award, she said she greatly enjoyed the numerous banquets, receptions, panels and discussions the gathering allowed her to attend.
“It was a wonderful experience,” said Corner.
