STC Students Place in All Competitions at Business Conference

February 10, 2014 - Two Southeastern Technical College students took the 2014 Georgia International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) Certification Development Workshop and Student Conference by storm, placing in every competition held at the event.

The two-day conference was held in Savannah on Feb. 7 and 8. Tina Jernigan, STC Business Administrative Technology instructor and IAAP advisor, traveled with students LaDonna York and Christal White.

“I’m very proud of Christal and LaDonna for participating in this year’s conference and their continued support of our IAAP student chapter at STC,” said Jernigan.

The five competitions at the conference were Grammar/Business Writing, where White finished third and York finished first; Microsoft Office 2010, where White finished third and York finished second; Mock Certified Administrative Professional Exam, where White finished second and York finished first; Mock Organizational Management Exam, where White finished second and York finished first; and Public Speaking, where White finished second.

York, who is the president of STC’s IAAP chapter, has placed in competitions at this conference each of the past four years.

“The students are what keeps our IAAP chapter alive here at STC and without them we would not be able to travel and participate in these competitions and network with fellow professionals,” said Jernigan.

The IAAP is a not-for-profit professional association for office professionals with approximately 28,000 members and affiliates and nearly 600 chapters worldwide. Their stated mission is to enhance the success of career-minded administrative professionals by providing opportunities for growth through education, community building and leadership development.
