Eligibility for Enrollment
Because a person passing the GED Tests leads to issuance of the Jurisdiction's (GA) official credential, it is important that the GED Chief Examiner and GED Examiners validate that each person who takes the GED Tests has supplied adequate evidence of identity and eligibility.
Each GED candidate's identification and eligibility must be verified by inspecting at least one acceptable form of identification during registration and again before admission to each testing session. Each GED candidate (age 16-19) must have documentation that proves that he or she has officially withdrawn from school and must provide some document proving that he or she is eligible to take the GED Tests.
All 16 and 17 year olds must fill out forms requesting permission to take the GED. Underage youths must have the forms filled out by the applicant and their parent or guardian. An official withdrawal, a valid ID, and 12 hours of instruction are required before the GED request can be sent to GED Testing in Atlanta for approval. All 18 and 19 year olds must present an official withdrawal from the last school ( K-12) they attended at registration in order to test.
