Office of Financial Aid Application Procedures
All students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student (FAFSA) process in order to receive federal or state aid (regardless of Pell Grant eligibility). The only exception is for students who are applying for the HOPE Scholarship or Grant only; these students may complete the online HOPE Application instead of the FAFSA and will not be considered for any federal aid.
- All students requesting financial aid must file an application with the Office of Financial Aid in accordance with the procedures established by the office. Students must also agree to complete any related forms, as requested by the office.
- The Office of Financial Aid will request the completion of a Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) form for each student who applies for funds. Those students who decline to complete the application will not be eligible for Title IV funds or the Georgia LEAP Grant.
- Students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the Renewal FAFSA. Students can complete either the paper application and mail it in the envelope provided, or electronically access FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Either of these methods will allow the Office of Financial Aid to receive your application information electronically, as long as you list STC as one of your six college choices. STC Federal Title IV School Code is 030665.
- Beginning with the 0708 Aid Year, students who do not wish to complete a FAFSA Application will be required to complete the new GSFAPPS Application Online at www.GACollege411.com. All students must complete this application online four weeks before their anticipated start date in order to allow GSFC and STC Office of Financial Aid to process your application.
- All students are required to complete the 0809 STC - Certification, Authorization, and Agreement Form when applying for Financial Aid. This form is not a alternate form to the FAFSA or State Applications, nor is it an application for scholarships. This form must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid.
- After the Federal Processor receives your FAFSA application, your application will be processed and a Student Aid Report (SAR) will be mailed to you. You should review your SAR for accuracy. If any information is incorrect, make corrections according to the instructions on Part-2: Information Review Form and either return it to the Federal Processor or forward it to STC's Office of Financial Aid in order for corrections to be made and the Office of Financial Aid to receive your revised information electronically. If no changes need to be made, do not submit a correct SAR to the Office of Financial Aid.
- The U.S. Department of Education created a Verification Process to check the accuracy of information submitted on the FAFSA by students and parents. The process includes submitting a Verification Worksheet and tax returns to match information on the FAFSA. Your SAR may indicate your application has been selected for Verification; however, even if your SAR does not say you have been selected by the Department, you may still be required to complete a Verification Worksheet and provide tax documents. Please make sure that the Verification Worksheet and tax documents you submit contain the appropriate signatures. Failure to submit required Verification Documentation may result in you not being eligible for Financial Aid.
- The Office of Financial Aid will contact you, through your Campus Email and BannerWeb, if additional documentation is needed to process your request for financial aid. Please respond promptly in order to prevent delays in processing your application for aid. Please check BannerWeb weekly in order to check the status of your application.
- Once the Office of Financial Aid has received all required documents, your award notice will be processed and your award can be viewed through BannerWeb detailing your eligibility of funds. Be sure to review all messages associated with your award notification.
