Prospective Students
Tips from the Office of Financial Aid
- APPLY EARLY! The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can be completed as soon as the appropriate tax forms are completed.
- FILE ON-LINE! Applying online is faster and more accurate. Web-based programs have built in edits to prevent students from missing required information. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Southeastern Technical College's federal school code is 030665. For the 0708 Aid Year, the HOPE Application must be completed online by using the GACollege411 Web site at www.gacollege411.org.
- Use your FEDERAL PIN to sign your FAFSA. You and your parent can electronically sign the FAFSA by using your individual PIN numbers. A PIN number can be obtained online at www.pin.ed.gov. Allow 4 hours for a response if providing an email address. Allow 10 business days if requesting by postal mail.
- Read all printed materials you receive from the Office of Financial Aid. If you do not understand something, contact the Office of Financial Aid immediately.
- Make a copy of everything you submit to the Office of Financial Aid.
- Keep a folder with all copied materials, instructions, applications and notifications for each year you receive awards while attending STC.
- Reply promptly to any request for additional information, even if you think the information has already been processed. When the Office of Financial Aid requests additional documents, a timely response (within 10 days) will prevent a delay in the application process.
- Make sure you correct Social Security Number is on all applications.
- Be sure all required signatures appear on all applications.
- Use your full legal name on all applications. Do not use nickname, abbreviations, initials, or middle names as your first name. Your name on the FAFSA and GSFAPPS Application must match your name on your Social Security Card. If they do not, your application will be delayed.
- Know your responsibilities to maintain eligibility. Students must maintain the minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements in order to receive Federal and State Aid. These standards are maintained in both the qualitative (GPA) and quantitative (completion rate percentage and attempted hours limitation) requirements. A copy of the policy is available in the STC Student Handbook and Catalog and available online under the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
