November 5, 2019 – Southeastern Technical College (STC) is a recognized National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Chapter and a recognized Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society. STC has been involved in the NTHS for several years and is pleased that many students have graduated with NTHS honors.

In 2016, STC requested to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was awarded the local Beta Phi Psi Chapter. NTHS and PTK recognize honor graduates who are pursuing a diploma or a degree from Southeastern Technical College. Phi Theta Kappa (Beta Phi Psi) honors students who are pursuing an associate’s degree from Southeastern Technical College.

National Technical Honor Society is the acknowledged leader in the recognition of outstanding student achievements in career and technical education. The NTHS mission is also to encourage higher scholastic achievement, cultivate a desire for personal excellence, and enhance career opportunities for top students. To qualify for membership, the student must be regularly admitted to a diploma or degree program, have completed at least 35 cumulative hours, have an overall GPA of 3.5, and exhibit professional work ethics.

The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize excellence among two-year college students and the purpose of the Beta Phi Psi Chapter at Southeastern Technical College is the promotion of scholarship, the development of leadership and service, and the cultivation of fellowship among two-year qualified students. Candidates for membership in the Beta Phi Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at STC must have completed 12 semester hours of associate degree course work with a GPA of 3.5, adhere to the school conduct code, and possess recognized qualities of citizenship.

Dr. Samuel Holton is the advisor for the National Technical Honor Society and the Beta Phi Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at STC. He states, “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the honor students of Southeastern Technical College and I hope to encourage students to be not only academically successful but also to strive for personal achievements and to display leadership roles in their communities.” Dr. Holton is a 2018 graduate of Nova Southeastern University where he earned a Doctor of Education.
